The 10U Lady Braves traveled to Carrollton Thursday evening for their season opener versus the Carroll County Silver Lions. Head coach Melissa Jones said, “It’s a difficult task opening up on the road especially playing under the new rules.”
This year the girls are playing in the live-arm division. The Braves are very fortunate to have Laura Hutchins come on board as their pitching coach for the fall season.
With the first pitch scheduled for 7:30, the Lady Braves took the field in what would become not only a nice surprise but a rousing victory as well. Katelyn Jiles would start the game at pitcher, throwing four strikeouts in two innings of play while allowing five runs.
In the 3rd inning, Coach Hutchins made a pitching change and brought in Caroline Jones who worked the final two innings of scoreless softball while notching six strikeouts. It was the first time both Jones and Jiles had ever pitched in a game and these girls simply did an outstanding job.
Offensively, the Lady Braves would just not be denied. They jumped out to a quick start, putting up four runs in the 1st, one run in the 2nd and two in the 3rd en route to a 7-5 victory over the Lady Lions.
With their record at 1-0, the Lady Braves will be back in Friday at 6pm at the Heard County recreation Complex.
