(Atlanta, GA) — The Georgia State Patrol is reporting 17 traffic related fatalities during the Memorial Day weekend which is nearly three times as many motorists and passengers that died during the same period in 2013.
The official holiday travel period began at 6:00 p.m. Friday and lasted through Monday at midnight.
Nine of the fatalities were reported by the state patrol including one each by GSP Blue Ridge, GSP Toccoa, GSP Gwinnett, GSP Villa Rica, GSP Newnan, GSP Forsyth, GSP Dublin, GSP Albany, and GSP Valdosta.
The other eight fatalities were reported by local agencies including three by Cobb County Police, one by Lawrenceville Police, one by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, one by Dougherty County Police, one by Byron Police, and one by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
55-year-old Michael Allen Naber was killed Saturday night on Fischer Road in Coweta County.
