The Iron Brave competition was held recently prior to the start of official football practices at the high school.

The 5th annual competition is an athletic/weight-lifting event that is the culmination of lots of effort and hard work by coaches and kids from all sports during summer work-outs.

Events consist of Bench Press, Squats, Power Cleans, the 40-Yard Dash, the 300-Yard Shuttle Run, and the Broad Jump.

The top 10 participants each year are proclaimed the Iron Braves and each receive t-shirts signifying their accomplishments. Each athlete scores between one and 30 points for each of the six events.

Senior Qua Reid finished on top for the second consecutive year finishing with 160 points besting his total of 156 from the 2011 competition. Not far behind were Jonathon Hunt (149 pts), Duranta Dunson (147 pts), and Tae Freeland (145 pts).

The overall weightlifting champion this year was Taron “Fluffy” Person who set an Iron Brave record with an awesome 1040 pounds.

Athletes across the board improved their scores from 2011 including Jake Edwards who increased his point total from 110 to 133 this year.

The Braves football team travels this Friday night to Haralson County for a preseason scrimmage before the regular season opener at Callaway on Saturday, August 25.
