2016 Heard County Christmas: A Guide to First Weekend Holiday Events

(Heard County, GA) — In keeping with the annual tradition this upcoming first weekend in December will feature a record number of Christmas celebrations in Heard County including community parades featuring the Marching Braves, holiday fundraisers, and several visits from jolly old Saint Nicholas himself.

In order to help our readers keep up with this festive itinerary of events, we have compiled the list below to make planning somewhat simpler.

First December Weekend Christmas Events

christmas-2016-hd-wallpaperWinter Fest in Franklin — The annual Franklin Christmas Parade will take place Friday evening, December 2 at 6:00 PM. Other activities on the square will kick off at 5:00 PM including music, food, drinks, games, arts & crafts, and pictures with Santa Claus. Admission is free but everyone is asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for the Heard County Sheriff’s Office annual toy drive. This year’s theme is “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

One Night in Bethlehem — Hosted by Glenloch Baptist Church on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night from 6:00-8:30 PM, “One Night in Bethlehem” is a live version of the town of Bethlehem during the time of Jesus’ birth. Pre-tour worship and information is provided in the new sanctuary , and groups are led by guides who are stationed throughout the town. Each guide tells about different aspects of the times and culture of Bethlehem. Guests will see Roman soldiers, lepers, metal workers, the innkeeper, and angels (among other Biblical characters), as well as live sheep, donkeys, horses, and goats. Post tour refreshments will be served. Led by a team of over 160 volunteers, ONIB hosts over 1000 guests annually. Free admission.

Breakfast with Santa — The Heard County 4-H program will host a very special ‘Breakfast with Santa’ event on Saturday morning at the 4-H office (Old Recreation Dept. Gym) in Franklin. Tickets are $5 each but seats were limited. Check with the Heard County Extension Office or Commissioner’s Office for availability.

The Ephesus Parade and Bazaar — The annual Ephesus Christmas Parade takes place on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in the City of Ephesus. Immediately following the parade, Ephesus Elementary School will host its Christmas Bazaar featuring several local vendors.

The Town of Centralhatchee Parade — The annual Centralhatchee Christmas Parade will begin at 4:30 PM Saturday afternoon in downtown Centralhatchee. Following the parade, everyone is invited to view the lighting of the town Christmas Tree in Centralhatchee Park. Refreshments will be served next door at the First Baptist Church of Centralhatchee and Santa will be on hand to meet the kids.

Charity Basketball Game — The 3rd annual charity basketball game benefitting ‘Toys For Tots’ will take place Saturday at 7:00 PM in the Heard County High School gymnasium. This year’s event will once again feature Franklin and Heard County Public Safety employees versus Heard County school system faculty members and coaches. Admission for this year’s game is an unwrapped toy with a value of $5 or more, non-perishable food items, or a monetary donation. Prizes will be given away at halftime. The night will also feature a visit from special guest Legendary professional wrestler ‘Thunderbolt’ Patterson.

‘Trot For Tots’ Food Pantry Drive & Team Challenge Barrel Race —  Hosted by the Cowboy Shop and HCSO on Sunday, admission is FREE and toys and food will be collected for those in need this Christmas. For every unwrapped toy, three cans of food, or a cake to be donated for the silent cake auction, you will receive a ticket to be eligible for the door prizes to be given away throughout the day. There is no limit to tickets you can “buy” with your donations! Santa will be there for pictures from 12:00 PM -4:00 PM. Concessions will be available as well as photo packages with Santa where 10% will be donated to the HCSO. Bullseye Bonanza will also be on site with a mechanical bucking bull 50% of the proceeds being donated! Practice starts at noon and barrel racing begins between 2-3 PM.
