23-year-old UWG student shot to death

(Carrollton, GA) — Authorities are investigating the deadly shooting of a University of West Georgia student at an apartment complex in Carroll County.

Carrollton Police Capt. Chris Dobbs told WSB Channel 2 Action News the 23-year-old man identified as Tyler Ford of Athens, GA was found dead at the entrance to the apartments on Lovvorn Road, just north of the university.

Students at UWG are mourning after one of their own was shot to death at an off-campus apartment.

The shooting happened around 4:30 PM in unit 504 Wednesday afternoon. Detectives say the victim’s three roommates who were home at the time called 911 after hearing gunshots go off.

“They did hear a knock at the door. The victim did go to the door. They said after a few seconds they heard  gunshots,” Cpt. Chris Dobbs said.

Police say they rushed out of their rooms and found Ford lying in a pool of blood in the front doorway.

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the apartment complex.

People who knew Ford said they’re having a difficult time trying to process why this happened to someone who they say was a great, fun-loving guy.
