3 Injured in Thursday afternoon crash near Centralhatchee

(Franklin) — Three people were injured in a single-vehicle accident yesterday just north of Franklin near Centralhatchee.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:04 p.m. Thursday afternoon in the northbound lanes of U.S. HWY 27 and involved a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The driver of the vehicle, 65-year-old Patricia Whitten of Ranburne, AL was the most seriously injured and was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.

Her two passengers, 40-year-old Jimmy Crawford and 30-year-old Amanda Crawford, also of Ranburne, were taken by ground to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

They were both treated for cuts and bruises and later released.

According to Whitten’s daughter Sonya Keenum, her mother remains in critical condition in the trauma unit at AMC with a fractured neck and arm that will require surgery sometime this weekend once she is stabilized.

“We are so thankful for everyone’s thoughts and prayers right now,” said Keenum Friday evening.

The GSP report indicates the vehicle was traveling north on Georgia Highway 27 in the left lane, when Whitten failed to maintain her lane and traveled off the west shoulder.

She overcorrected and traveled across both northbound lanes and off the east shoulder before overcorrecting a second time and traveling off the west shoulder again.

The vehicle then overturned multiple times before coming to rest in the median.

Both northbound lanes were closed for about an hour while the accident was cleared.

  1. I’ve never seen traffic backed up like that on 27 in 50 years.
