(Franklin) — The 9th Annual Heard County Braves Athletic Booster Club Silent Auction took place Saturday night in the Heard High School cafeteria.

A catered dinner provided by Chef Tillman and the culinary arts department and was followed up by the always exciting process of auctioning off various donated items as well as the handing out of several cash prizes through the raffle.

Greg Holcomb served as M.C. for the event. Mr. John Cosper was the big winner of the night as his name was drawn for the grand prize of $2500 in cash.

Other cash prize winners included Jeremy Crockett – $1000, Ashley Awbrey – $500, Beverly Wiggins – $500, and Ralph Watson – $500.

The large crowd in attendance found some amazing bargains on many of the items all of which were donated by local businesses and private supporters.

Those gathered also heard a special message from guest speaker and former UGA Special Teams Captain Chad Gloer.

The main even of the night came with the unveiling of the big “mystery item” purchased by one of the top supporters of the Braves Mr. Terry Harper. The signature item was a Massey Ferguson Zero Turn Mower.

Lots of great deals were to be had on sports related items, hand-crafted merchandise, and of course the traditional gift baskets containing all sorts of themed items.

Some of the other featured items included an autographed Joe Namath football helmet, a hand-crafted picnic table made by Mr. Darrell Crumley, autographed photos and balls from Heard County sports teams, deer stands, and mountain vacation packages.

Every donated item was auctioned off and early estimates by HHS Athletic Director Shane Lasseter indicate that somewhere between $16,000-$19,000 was raised for the athletic program.

The Heard High School Touchdown Club would like to thank everyone including businesses and private citizens who donated items and their time for this very worthy event as well as all of those who bought tickets and attended.

Additionally, the athletic department would like to extend a very special thanks to the primary sponsors of the event: Reeves Supply Company, Georgia Deer Farm, All-Pro Diesel, B & S Farms, Michael and Melody Cheney, Nutt Roofing and Siding, Michael Eidson, Ashley and Jake Awbrey, Julie Pope and Benjamin Hyatt, Right Angle Roofing, West Georgia Tech, Stephens and Stephens, and Marsh Siding.
