A ‘feline sweep’ for the Middle Braves

(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School basketball teams scored home sweeps this week with wins over both the Villa Rica Wildcats and the Temple Tigers.

Both were important league wins for the respective squads that will help in securing higher seeds come tournament time.

The Lady Braves defeated the Villa Rica Wildcats on Tuesday by a final score of 44-5.

Leading the way in scoring was Jayden Boykin with 25. Other scorers included Samantha Williams with seven, Katy Gray with four, Carmaya Swint with four, Cassidy Prince with two, and Belle Emory with two.

The Lady Braves avenged an early season loss on Thursday when they knocked off Temple 45-29.

The Lady Braves trailed by six at the half before dominating the third and fourth quarters.

Jayden Boykin again had a monster game with 28 points while shooting 80% from the foul line.

Callie Senn had a nice game scoring seven and rounding out the Lady Brave scoring were Williams with six, Natalie Schneider with two, and Swint with two.

In  boys’ action, the Braves defeated Temple 64-36 Thursday behind strong performances from Jonathan Echols and L.J. Green.

Echols scored 16 and Green tallied 13 as the Braves remained undefeated in league play. The Braves led 42-17 at the half.

Other scorers included Landon McLendon with nine, Antwan Carter with nine, Sammy Holliday with eight, Cameron Latimer with three. Jeremiah Eubanks, Bradford Hadley, and Nathan Allen each scored two.

The HCMS boys and girls will both return to action at home next Thursday when they host Mt. Zion. The girls will tip of at HCMS at 5:00 PM followed immediately by the boys at 6:30 PM.
