The Braves varsity football team was nominated for Team of the Week on Saturday by High-5 Sports and FOX-5 News from Atlanta.
The Braves were one of five teams nominated to compete via an online fan poll to be named Team of the Week and earn a trophy and other prizes as well as a school appearance by the news crew during the airing of Good Day Atlanta.
The Brave Nation fans rallied for votes by facebook, text messages, and many other means in hopes of winning the contest for the Braves. Votes were cast for the undefeated Braves from places all over the world including Thailand, Guatemala, Italy, and California just to name a few.
The Braves exchanged the lead several times with the Fayette County Tigers right up until the 3:00 pm deadline Tuesday afternoon but fell just short. Over 500,000 votes were cast with the Tigers gaining the edge in the final hour.
Despite coming in second place the Brave Nation was very proud to have accumulated 249,372 votes during the three day voting period. It was a tremendous effort considering that the Tigers are a AAAA school from a much more populated county.
As a result of the great effort put forth by the Brave fans, High-5 Sports posted via their facebook page that they would also be sending cameras to Franklin Friday night to get some footage of the Braves taking on the Temple Tigers at Staples Stadium.
The presence of the Atlanta media will add to an already exciting “Pink-Out” night for breast cancer awareness. The high school sold nearly 500 special pink t-shirts for the game raising over $1500 for the American Cancer Society.
In addition, Budget Paint and Body Works has pledged to also donate $100 to the American Cancer Society for every Brave touchdown scored during the game. Everyone in the community is invited to attend this truly special game this Friday night.
