American Legion Post 148 members deliver Christmas gifts to Nursing Home Vets

Several members of American Legion Post 148 delivered Christmas gifts to five World War II veterans at Heritage Healthcare of Franklin on Sunday December 23.

The veterans were each presented with gift packages containing throw blankets, assorted fruits, and warm socks.

Representing Post 148 were Post Commander Jim Bishop, Senior Vice Commander Dwight Cordell, Treasurer V.D. Massey, and Vice Commander Frank Crook.

The veterans receiving gifts included Mr. Clyde Scott, who served in the Navy in 1945, and Mr. Joseph Merica who also served in the Navy in 1943.

Army veterans receiving the gift packages included Mr. Henry Shaw (1945), Mr. M.C. Dunson (1943), and Mr. L.T. Tenney (1944).

Senior Vice Commander Dwight Cordell estimates that about 700 veterans reside in Heard County.

The American Legion Post 148 is located at 9933 U.S. Highway 27 (Franklin Pkwy).
