(Columbus, GA) — Senior Anna Shelnutt broke the single-season Lady Brave home run record in a 3-2 win over Columbus High School on the campus of Columbus State University Monday.

Shelnutt’s ninth long ball of the season and 17th of her career would ultimately prove to be the winning run in the make-up of an earlier rain out.

The catcher also doubled earlier in the game driving in Aspen Barker who was hit by a pitch and stole second base.

Senior Johanna Beyer drove in the go-ahead run on the same field she is committed to play on next season with the CSU Cougars.

Jordan Watson pitched the first four frames for the Lady Braves allowing only a single run, and senior Sarah Schofield got the three inning save in relief.

The win ends the regular season for the Lady Braves who now turn their full attention to the post-season beginning with the Region 5-AA tournament this Thursday at Bremen.

The Lady Braves will face off with the Bowdon Red Devilettes in game one with a Saturday region championship game appearance and home field advantage in round one of the state playoffs on the line for the winner.

The first round of the state playoffs begin next Wednesday with Region 5-AA taking on Region 8-AA.
