Area man arrested after accidentally shooting himself

(Lagrange, GA) — On September 11, 2016 investigators were called to a shooting on Old School Road in western Troup County.

Patrol deputies and investigators located James Forrest McMillan, age 23, of Franklin, Georgia, with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

McMillan was flown to Columbus, Georgia, for emergency care.

Investigators continued the investigation and were able to determine that McMillan was a convicted felon and had accidentally shot himself with a hand gun. Investigators and patrol personnel also located illegal narcotics near the scene of the shooting.

McMillan was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, VGCSA possession of methamphetamine, VGCSA possession of a schedule four controlled substance and violation of superior court probation.

McMillan is now in the Troup County Jail awaiting a hearing.
