Austin Miller sets new Heard County high jump mark

(Lagrange, GA) — Senior track athlete Austin Miller established two new Heard County High School records at the Troup High track meet last Thursday.

Miller broke his own high jump record that he had shared with Deron Swint (6-4) when he cleared an outstanding mark of 6 feet, 8 inches.

Miller also broke his own school record in the long jump Thursday hitting his mark at 22 feet, 11 inches.

Junior Holly Moreland also topped her own school record in the 1600M at 5:58.6 to lead Lady Brave long distance runners.

Other top finishers included Samantha Minix (1st place in both the Shot Put and Discus Throw), Kaitlyn Henderson (2nd place Shot Put and Discus), Micaiah Austin (2nd place Shot Put), and Dekaii Ogletree (1st Place -Triple Jump). Freshman Tori Caldwell cleared 5 feet in the high jump.

The Braves will next host the Chattahoochee River Invitational at 3:00 PM on April 13 at HCMS in Franklin. Admission is $5 per person.

The Region 5-AA Finals will take place April 18 and 20 at Lamar County High School and the Class AA Sectional Meet will be Gordon Central High School on April 29. The GHSA Class AA Boys and Girls State Championships will be hosted by Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany May 11-13.
