(Franklin) — The Heard County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help from the public in locating the person or persons responsible for a hit-and-run accident which took place on the afternoon of August 5, 2014.
According to reports, the hit-and-run took place between 4:00-4:30 pm on Highway 34 West near the Alabama state line.
The victim in the incident, 49-year-old Joyce Bowley, was at the end of her driveway retrieving her mailbox which had fallen off the post.
Bowley stated that as she reached down to pick up the mailbox to replace it on the post, an eastbound maroon SUV (possibly a 2013 Ford Escape) ran off the roadway and an occupant of the vehicle opened the passenger side door and proceeded to hit her with the moving vehicle. She was knocked to the ground and was unable to get back to her feet as several cars passed her by.
A Roanoke woman did stop and called the police, and Bowley was transported to West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange with injuries to the right side of her body. She was later treated by the Houston Clinic in LaGrange.
Bowley stated that she could hear laughter as the car hit her that afternoon and she believes it may have been young teens out playing.
“They may have thought it was funny but my injuries are no joke,” said Bowley. ” If anyone saw anything or knows anything I hope that they please come forward before someone loses his or her life.”
The Heard County Sheriff’s Department is asking for any persons to come forward that may have information that could help lead to the arrest of the people involved in this case.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Heard County investigator Deborah Williams with any information at 706-675-3329.
