A phone call to the Heard County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, July 20, 2013 referring to unknown subjects staying in a vacant home led to several arrests last week for crimes involving at least three local counties.

The call led three Heard County Sheriff’s deputies on July 20 to 3815 Ga. Hwy 34 West in western Heard County where they discovered more than just homesteaders.

Upon arrival on the scene at about 7:45 pm, the deputies witnessed a white male, later identified as 33-year-old James Elvin Cook, of 474 Whitley O’Neal Rd. in Franklin.

After further investigation at the home, deputies discovered a large amount of stolen property including vehicles, guns, two jet-skis, four-wheelers, two metal trailers, and other stolen property. The two Sea Doo jet skis had been previously reported stolen in Troup County.

Inside the home a small in stature white male was found hiding in a back room and was identified as 25-year-old Alan Jay Faulkner of Newnan. Faulkner was found to have active warrants in Coweta County and charged with Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Another 18-year-old female from Lagrange was also at the home but was not charged.

In addition to the stolen property, authorities found a black book bag inside the home containing illegal drugs. According to a report issued by Heard County investigator Ken Hester, inside the bag was a clear plastic container that consisted of six clear plastic bags containing approximately 3.9 ounces of methamphetamine, a black in color digital scale, and a large pill bottle with the name of James Elvin Cook.

Several towing companies were needed to haul the stolen property back to the Sheriff’s Department’s impound lot in Franklin.

After a several day search, James Elvin Cook was arrested Wednesday morning, July 24 by Randolph County, AL authorities at 522 County Road 655 in Roanoke where he was also wanted on a probation violation.

According to a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office report, Cook was charged with Probation Violation and three counts of fugitive from justice on charges of trafficking meth and two counts of sale of meth from the state of Georgia. Cook is currently in the Randolph County jail.
