Basketball Tourney Continues this Weekend at HCMS

The 1st Annual Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament continues through tomorrow at the Heard County Middle School on Old Field Rd.

Games have been taking place every day this week and will be capped by games tonight and then games all day tomorrow.

The boys and girls championship games will take place tomorrow night. The HCMS girls team got of to a rousing start on Monday with a big 40-13 win over Holy Ground in the first game of the tourney.

The scoring leaders for the Lady Braves were Alyssa Cosper with 13, Jordan Watson with 10, and Sage Kelly with 5. The girls were advanced in the tournament to Saturday based on the need of Bowdon to attend their football playoff game on Friday.

The girls will scrimmage each other this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. before playing the Auburn/Long Cane winner in the championship game on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The HCMS boys team also got off to a good start by defeating Holy Ground on Tuesday by a final score of 49-40. Leading scores in that game were Lashon Echols with 14 and Collin Nutt with 13. Drew Blair added 6 and Austin Barron 5.

In Thursday action, the boys were defeated soundly 46-21 by Heritage. Echols again led the way with 9 points. The HCMS Boys will face a strong Callaway team today at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to come out today and tomorrow as basketball season kicks into high gear at the middle school.

Saturday games will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day concluding with the girls championship game at 7:00 p.m. followed by the boys championship game at 8:30.
