Local icon Calvin Bentley passed away in November of 2015.

(Carrollton, GA) — Lowell Congregational Holiness Church in Carrollton will be hosting a benefit singing for the late Calvin Bentley on March 5, 2016 at 6 pm. The church is located at 1725 Lowell Road in Carrollton.

Proceeds from this event will be put towards the funeral expenses of the late Calvin Bentley who passed away on November 8, 2015.

Born on June 23, 1948 in the Lowell Community, Calvin was seen almost daily traveling the roads of Carrollton by foot in any type of weather heading to wherever his destination may be, and from time to time he would receive courtesy rides from people passing by.

Calvin became a true icon in the West Georgia community as he met and befriended many residents of Carroll County, Heard County and the surrounding areas.

The benefit will feature a live performance by the Second Coming Ministries group.

Since 1994, the Griffin, Georgia based gospel group has traveled with a full band filling over 70 dates a year. The best word to describe the Independent Label Recording Group would be “Original.”

They have their own songs, play their own music and have their own style. In 2011 the Southeastern Southern Gospel Music Fans voted Second Coming Band as “Live Band of the Year” and Second Coming was in the Top 5 for Trio of the Year and Donna Hannah-Boswell for Songwriter of the Year.

In 2012 the SESGMC voted SCM as “Live Band of the Year” and Donna top 5 for “Favorite Female Gospel Singer.”

Anyone wishing to make donations in Calvin’s honor directly to the funeral home may do so by mailing a check to Martin & Hightower, PO Box 215, Carrollton, Ga. 30113. Please put “Calvin Bentley” in the memo line.
