Boykin, Owens lead HCMS Lady Braves to finals

(Villa Rica, GA) — The Heard County Middle School Lady Braves remained perfect Thursday night after knocking off Bowdon in the West Georgia Middle School semifinals by a final score of 47-24.

Jayden Boykin and Jasmine Owens each had big nights to lead the way a the squad coached by Shaqueri Talmadge pushed its record to 13-0 on the season.

Boykin, only a seventh grader, exploded for 23 points in the game to lead all scorers including eight in the first quarter.

The Lady Braes were consistent in the scoring output notching between 11-13 in each of the four quarters.

Jasmine Owens was a force throughout the game especially in the second half where she scored nine of her 12 total points. Amaya Hammel rounded out the top scorers with five points.

The Lady Braves will battle the Villa Rica Wildcats for the league championship Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at Villa Rica Middle School.

Saturday’s title tilt with the Wildcats will be a tough challenge for the Lady Braves.

Although they were able to push past the Wildcats two times during the regular season each win came by just four points. The Lady Braves edged the Cats 34-30 early in the season and got another close win again at Villa Rica on January 10 winning 43-39.

The Wildcats earned their slot in the title game with a win over Mt. Zion Thursday.

The Middle Braves boy’s team coached by Zerick Green will play in the semifinals versus Mt. Zion today at 6:30 PM at VRMS and with a win would join the Lady Braves in Saturday’s Championships.

The boys’ title game is slated to start at 12:30 PM. All playoff games are being played at Villa Rica Middle School in Carroll County.
