Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (02/15/18)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Lady Braves Round One Playoff — The Lady Braves will travel to KIPP Atlanta Friday for round one of the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs. The game tips off at 6:00 PM. Click here for directions.

Braves Round One Playoff  — The Braves will travel to Therell High School in Atlanta Friday for round one of the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs. The game tips at 8:00 PM. The game is about 15 minutes from the girls game for those fans that want to see both games. Click here for directions.

Tennis Opener — The Brave tennis season gets underway this afternoon at HHS with a home match versus Mt. Zion. The 2018 Braves are coached by first year head coach and former standout Lady Brave player Blake Alford.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is junior HHS wrestler Mr. Gage Cannon.

Gage finished in third place at the GHSA Class AA State Wrestling Championships in Macon last weekend, the second highest finish in school history.

Cannon medaled for the second year in a row after earning a fifth place medal as a sophomore and will be a contender for the title next year.

Congrats to Gage for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week. 

State Weightlifting Meet — The HHS weightlifting program will compete at the GACA State Meet at Jefferson County High School on March 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM.

Baseball Opener — Coach Trent Bianco and the Braves baseball team opened the season with a 6-4 loss to Central yesterday. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Central but was moved to Heard due to weather/field conditions. Tray Owens led the offense with two hits and Bryan Jones and Tanner Collins each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

New Offers — Brave junior running/defensive back Aaron Beasley picked up two D-1 offers this week from West Virginia and Georgia Tech.
