Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (02/07/17)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Braves Blackout — Students and fans attending Thursday’s Region Semifinals at HHS are asked to wear black and bring the noise in support of both basketball teams! Tickets for each night of the tourney are $7.00.

Boy’s Region Basketball Tourney — The Braves will host a Region 5-AA semi-final game at 8:30 PM on Thursday at HHS. The Braves will meet the winner of tonight’s play-in game between #4 Temple and #5 Jordan. At 5:30 Thursday at HHS, #2 Spencer will face the winner of tonight’s play-in game between #3 Callaway and #6 Lamar County. Thursday’s semi-final winners will meet in the Championship game Friday night at 8:30 at HHS.

Girl’s Region Basketball Tourney — The Lady Braves will host a Region 5-AA semi-final game at 7:00 PM Thursday at HHS. The Lady Braves will meet the winner of tonight’s play-in game between #4 Jordan and #5 Lamar County. At 4:00 PM Thursday at HHS, #2 Callaway will face the winner of tonight’s play-in game between #3 Temple and #4 Spencer. Thursday’s semi-final winners will meet in the girl’s Region 5-AA Championship game Friday night at 7:00 PM at HHS.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

Wyn POWThe Brave Nation Player of the Week is freshman varsity wrestler Mr. Wyn Denney.

Denney brought home 4th place in the 160-pound weight class Saturday in Rockmart to become the first Braves freshman to qualify for the Class AA State Finals under the current area/sectional format.

Congratulations to Wyn for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week!

Baseball Scrimmage Change — The baseball scrimmage vs. Troup scheduled for this Friday has been moved up to Wednesday (5:30 PM first pitch) due to the region basketball tournament.The first HHS varsity regular season baseball game will take place at home next Tuesday, February 14 vs. Villa Rica.

Tennis Opener — The first tennis tournament for Coach Rich Fendley and the Braves tennis teams will take place on Monday, February 13 at Troup High School.

Offer Accepted — Senior Brave football player Dayvin Troy committed to the University of the Cumberlands Patriots at Williamsburg, Kentucky this week.

All-Region Awards — Jordarius Foster (Braves) and Kimberly Harris (Lady Braves) were each named Region 5-AA MVP’s this week. Other All-Region 5-AA selections were 1st teamers Hannah Sanders, Sage Kelley, and Alijah Huzzie; 2nd teamers Dekari Brewer and Emory Jones, and honorable mentions Ally Harris, Darius Matthews, and Tay Watson. 12 players were also named to the all-academic teams.
