Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (05/22/18)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Spring Sports Banquet — The Spring Sports Banquet at HHS will take place today Tuesday, May 22 in the HCHS cafeteria at 6:00 PM. Everyone is invited to honor baseball, track, sports medicine, golf, and tennis.

FSU Super Regionals — Cali Harrod, Anna Shelnutt and the No. 6 nationally-seeded Florida State softball team will battle LSU in the NCAA Super Regional in Tallahassee this weekend. Games in the best-of-3 series are scheduled for Friday (7:00 PM/ESPNU), Saturday (5:00 PM/ESPN2), and Sunday (3:00 PM/ESPNU if necessary).

Brave Nation Co-Players of the Week

The Brave Nation Co-Players of the Week are Brave baseball players senior Bryan Jones and sophomore Tray Owens.

Jones and Owens were both crucial in leading the Braves to an appearance in the Elite 8 this season with a big Sweet 16 sweep at Dade County.

Owens was the hero of a game one win with two homers while Jones went the distance to earn the win on the mound in game two. Bryan also signed with Lagrange College last week.

Congratulations to Bryan and Tray for being named this week’s Brave Nation Co-Players of the Week.

Summer Baseball Camp — Coach Trent Bianco will host the annual Summer Baseball Camp at HCHS June 26-28 from 9-11 AM at HCHS. The camp is $45 and open to kids K-8th grade. For more information call Coach Bianco at 678-777-8246 or email him at trent.bianco@heard.k12.ga.us as soon as possible.

Hall of Fame Ceremony — The Heard County Athletics Hall of Fame night will take place prior to the Alexander scrimmage (7:30 PM) at Staples Stadium on August 10, 2018. Stay tuned for more information and an announcement of the 2018 class members.

Class AA Baseball — Benedictine defeated Berrien in a doubleheader to claim the 2018 Class AA baseball title.
