Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (08/16/17)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Hall of Fame Ribbon Cutting — The Brave Nation will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Hall of Fame Wall this Friday night at 6:30 PM at Staples Stadium following a private induction ceremony at the school for the inaugural Hall of Fame class of athletes, coaches, and community members.

Berry College Scrimmage — For the second straight year, the Berry College Vikings will hold a public scrimmage game at Staples Stadium. Gates will open at 6:30 PM.

Hall of Fame Stadium Ceremony — Following the Ribbon Cutting, the public will be introduced to the 17 Hall of Fame inductees at 6:45 PM on the field prior to the Braves opening night game versus South Atlanta.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is HHS sophomore softball pitcher Ms. Katelyn Jiles.

Katelyn helped lead the Lady Braves to their first win of the season (10-3 over Bowdon) at the Rival Rumble last Saturday in Bremen with solid play offensively and defensively.

On the mound, she pitched the complete game while allowing just two earned runs and striking out two, while at the plate she drove in the Lady Braves’ first two runs of the game with a double.

Congratulations to Katelyn for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week!

JV Football Opener — The JV Braves will host Callaway next Thursday, August 24 at Staples Stadium (5:30 PM).

1st Homer — Lady Brave sophomore outfielder Marissa Garza connected on her first ever varsity home run in a 10-3 win over Bowdon at the Rival Rumble last Saturday.

ESPN Game — The Brave varsity football team will travel to Cartersville next Saturday, August 26 to take on Saraland, AL in a game that will be broadcast on ESPNU (3:00 PM).
