(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Berry College Scrimmage — For the second straight year, the Berry College Vikings held a public scrimmage game at Staples Stadium Saturday night. The game featured two former Braves Chandler Polk and Jacob Bishop in uniform. Polk is the son of Lady Brave basketball coach Helen Akins (See photo above)

Home Run #2 — Sophomore Lady Brave Marissa Garza belted her second homer of the season in last Thursday’s 8-6 road win over Lagrange.

ESPN Game — The Brave varsity football team will travel to Cartersville this Saturday, August 26 to take on Saraland, AL in a game that will be broadcast on ESPNU (3:00 PM).

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is HHS football player Mr. Aaron Beasley.

He helped lead the Braves to a season opening 42-16 home win over South Atlanta Friday night.

Beasley rushed for 100 yards on just 14 carries with four touchdowns in his debut with the Braves.

Congratulations to Aaron for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week!

Softball Schedule Change — Due to the ESPNU game, the Lady Braves varsity softball game versus Wesleyan at Kennesaw State has been moved up to 10:00 AM. The middle school game will follow immediately after at Noon and the JV game has been cancelled.

Stateline Volunteers Needed — The Marching Braves will be hosting their first ever band competition on Saturday, September 30 at Staples Stadium and are in need of community volunteers for the event. If you can help please call Joy Thompson at 706-594-6879 or email her at JoyT30217@yahoo.com.

Hall of Fame Bios — Stay tuned to the Heard Citizen in the coming weeks to learn more about each of the 17 members of the Heard County Hall of Fame that were inducted last Friday night.
