Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (09/20/16)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Fox 5 Game of the Week — The Temple-Heard County game this Friday night currently leads the voting for Fox 5’s High 5 Sports Game of the Week with 61% of the vote. Fans may vote as often as they like at https://excitem.com/play/fox5b. Voting ends at noon on Thursday. Temple (4-0) was last week’s Fox 5 Team of the Week.

Honoring his Bet — Central High School Assistant Principal honored his losing bet by wearing a Heard County Braves shirt at school on Monday.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

Hopkins POWThe Brave Nation Player of the Week is HCHS senior football linebacker Mr. Drew Hopkins.

Drew has been a defensive stand-out all season for the Braves including last week when he made eight big tackles and blocked a field goal in the 28-7 win over Central.

Congratulations to Drew for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week!

Softball Triple-Header — All three Heard County softball teams (Middle, JV, and Varsity) will challenge The Wesleyan School in a triple-header this Saturday at Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville. HCMS starts things off at 10:00 AM.

America Theme — The theme for this Friday’s big Region 5-AA football game versus Temple is “Red, White, and Blue America.” Fans and students are encouraged to show their national pride. The game will be broadcast on Great Classic 98.9 and for the second week in a row Casey Bass and Clay Harden will call the action.

Marching Brave Competitions — The Marching Braves will participate at three competitions next month: The Superbowl of Sound at Central High School on Oct. 1, The Sound of the County Invitational at Harris County High School on Oct. 15, and The Lafayette Marching Classic at Fayette County High School on Oct. 29.
