Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (10/11/18)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, HeardCitizen.com brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

NEWS AND NOTES

Middle School Softball Championship — The middle school softball championships are tentatively scheduled (field conditions permitting) for today (Thursday) at HCHS. In semifinal action, No. 1 HCMS will take on No. 4 Villa Rica at 3:30 PM followed by No. 2 Bowdon versus No. 3 Temple at 5:00 PM. The winners will meet at 6:30 PM in the Championship game.

Varsity Football at Columbus — The varsity football team will travel to Columbus to take on Jordan tomorrow night with a special start time of 8:00 PM. Please note the game is being played at Kinnett Stadium (7610 Schomburg Rd, Columbus, GA 31909).

Brave Nation Co-Players of the Week

The Brave Nation Co-Players of the Week are softball players freshman first baseman Abigail Lathrop and sophomore outfielder Beth Taylor.

Lathrop has been one of the team’s hottest hitters down the stretch raising her average to .408 for the season with 8 doubles, 2 triples, and 23 RBI’s. 

Taylor has also been on fire as of late batting .522 for the season with 3 home runs and 15 RBI’s in just 26 at bats including a game three grand slam Wednesday versus Union County.  

Congratulations to Abigail and Beth for being named this week’s Brave Nation Co-Players of the Week. 

Varsity Softball Playoffs — The Lady Braves defeated Union County Wednesday morning to advance to a best-of-three Sweet 16 series versus Dade County next week. Stay tuned for game times. The winner of this series will advance to the GHSA State Tournament in Columbus October 25-27.

HCMS Football — The HCMS Braves earned two wins last week 22-18 over Temple and 14-0 over Bay Springs. In the Temple win, QB Will Alford had a TD pass to RoRo Edmondson, Jacob “Juice” Miles had a rushing TD and Jonathon Echols returned a fumble for a TD. In the Bay Springs win, Miles recovered a fumble and scored a TD, Alford had a rushing TD, and Dylan “Little Country” Stephens converted a 2-point play.
