Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (11/28/17)

(Franklin) — Each week during the sports season, brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

Varsity Football Semifinal — The Braves will host Hapeville Charter this Friday, December 1 in the fourth round of the GHSA Class AA State Playoffs. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and dress in Extreme Maroon/Brave attire!

Girl’s Basketball Underway — The varsity Lady Braves will travel to Starr’s Mill today for the first non-tourney regular season games of the season. The girls are 1-2 on the season thus far with losses to Central/Bowdon and a big 63-26 win over Mt. Zion. Due to football, this Friday’s scheduled game at Chapel Hill has been moved up one day to Thursday.

Boy’s Basketball — The varsity boys team will also travel to Starr’s Mill today. They are currently 0-3 on the season while missing several players due to the extended football season. Due to football, this Friday’s scheduled game at Chapel Hill has been moved up one day to Thursday.

Brave Nation Player of the Week

The Brave Nation Player of the Week is senior varsity football player Mr. Jaden Moreland.

Jaden has been a force for the Braves during the postseason on both sides of the ball and special teams including his school record 15th interception vs. Pepperell and two blocked kicks.

He is also the first Heard County receiver to have a 1,000 yard season.

Congratulations to Jaden for being named this week’s Brave Nation Player of the Week!

Varsity Wrestling Delay — Varsity wrestling has been postponed this week pending the end of football season.

Playoff Semifinal Tickets — Tickets can be purchased at Heard High School on Thursday and Friday from 8-10 AM or 11:30 AM until 2:30 PM. Any student can purchase a ticket for $13 in advance and all adult tickets are $15 dollars in advance or at the gate. (Only babies in arms don’t need a ticket)

Accolade for Former Brave — Former Brave offensive lineman Jacob Bishop was recognized recently as a member of the second team All Southern Athletic Association. Bishop is a sophomore for the Vikings.

Friday Night Radio Broadcast — This Friday’s playoff game vs. Hapeville Charter will be broadcast on B92.1 Country from Carrollton.

Semifinal Note — The Braves and Mount Zion in Class A are two of only four teams making their first ever trips to the semifinals this week. If both teams win they would play back-to-back at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on December 9 (Class A Public 10:00 AM/ Class AA 1:00 PM).
