Brave Nation Weekly News & Notes (11/30/15)

(Franklin) — Each week brings you a weekly wrap-up of Brave Nation sports including news, notes, a weekly schedule, and the Brave Nation Player of the Week.

1st Coaching Win — Braves new head basketball coach Paul Fitz-Simons got his first career win last week in Tallapoosa where the Braves knocked off Haralson County 51-38.

In the semis — The Northgate Vikings defeated Kell 34-21 Friday night in Newnan to earn a spot in the Class AAAAA semi-finals at Allatoona this week. Mt. Zion of Carrollton were eliminated in a heartbreaking last second 34-31 loss to Emanuel County institute in the Class A playoffs. No other local teams remain in the hunt.

State Title Hunt — The Braves varsity wrestling team opens the season at home today vs. Mt. Zion and senior Matt Brown will be looking to make another run at a state championship after his runner-up finish in Macon last year.

Dekari Brewer POWBrave Nation Player of the Week: The Player of the Week is varsity basketball player Mr. Dekari Brewer.

Dekari had a nine 4th quarter points to help lead the Braves to their first win of the season at Haralson County last week. 

Congratulations to Dekari for being named this week’s Player of the Week!

Schedule Change — The HCMS basketball schedule changed this week as the girls and boys will play Carrollton today at Temple instead of later this week.

Brown Bowling — Former Brave offensive lineman and the Marshall Thundering Herd are bowl bound this month although it is still unclear which bowl they will compete in. Many sources are projecting they could play in the St. Petersburg Bowl on December 26. Others have Marshall at the Miami Beach Bowl on December 21.

Busy Basketball Schedule — After the home openers at HHS tomorrow night, the varsity basketball teams’ schedules will be in full swing next week. Each team has seven games each before Christmas.

Class AA Semi-finalists — Fitzgerald, GAC, Pace Academy, and Jefferson County advanced to the football semifinals in Class AA last Friday. Fitzgerald knocked off defending state champion Benedictine 54-28.

~ UWG Wolves Football vs. Tuskegee (12:00 PM – NCAA Division II Super Regional Championship)
