Brave tennis downs Tigers on the hardcourt

(Franklin, GA) — The hot start to the season continued for the Brave tennis program Thursday as they knocked off Troup County by a final match score of 9-1.

The Lady Braves were again dominant winning all five female matches handily.

Senior No. 1 singles player Melissa Collins won 8-0 while fellow seniors Makayla Red won 8-2 and Laurel Roberts shut down her opponent 8-0.

The doubles tandems were equally impressive with the combo of senior Alexis Nelms and junior Katleyn Smith winning via 8-0 shutout and the duo of senior Macie Taylor and Rickyeria Phillips won 8-1.

In boys’ action, No. 1 junior Garrett Callahan No. 3 senior Thad Higgins each won 8-3 with No. 2 Jordan Cornelius dropping a close 8-5 match.

In doubles play, sophomore Ryan Tatom and junior Duncan Googe edged their Tiger opposition 8-6 while junior Ethan Hahn and sophomore Dave Dunn also won a close match by a final score of 8-5.

Coach Blake Alford and the Brave tennis teams will be back in action next week when they travel to Temple High School on Tuesday for the first Region 5-AA match of the season.

They will also travel to Mount Zion on Thursday before returning home to host Callaway in another region match-up on March 6.

On Wednesday, the Braves defeated the JV Lagrange Grangers by a final of 9-1 with the boys winning 5-0 and the girls 4-1 at HHS.
