Brave track competes at Carrollton Invitational

(Carrollton, GA) — Five Brave track athletes earned top ten finishes at one of the largest regular season track events hosted in the state each year, the Carrollton Invitational yesterday.

The huge all day event at Carrollton High School featured athletes from over 30 schools.

The Lady Braves scored 15 points on the day and earned a 12th place finish.

Stockbridge High won the ladies division with 99 points to finish ahead of second place Carrollton.

Leading the way for the Lady Braves was senior Holly Moreland who earned fifth place finishes in both the 1600 and 3200 Meter runs.

Moreland set a new Heard County High School record in the 1600 Meter with a time of 5:53.55.

Sophomore Tori Caldwell also had a big day with a fifth place finish in the Pole Vault (7-10) and a seventh place finish in the High Jump at 4-8.

Junior Samantha Minix had a very nice eighth place finish in the Discus with a throw of 91-8.

On the boys’ side, freshman Bailey Scarborough took home an eighth place finish in the Pole Vault with a jump of 9-6 while junior Jaidan Cameron scored his eighth place nod with a throw of 119-2 in the Discus event.

Another freshman Tae Gray set a new PR in the 100 Meter with a time of 11.71.

Coach Cory Shelnutt and the track team will be back in action this Thursday for another meet at Mount Zion High School before returning to HCMS after Spring Break to host the Chattahoochee Invitational on Thursday, April 12 at 3:00 PM.
