(Lagrange, GA) — The Heard County Braves varsity wrestling team competed in a dual meet at Callaway High School last Saturday in Lagrange.

The team is currently only fielding four wrestlers, but while unable to win dual matches, the tourney did allow for some good individual competition for each Brave participant.

Senior Wyn Denney led the way going undefeated to push his season record to a perfect 23-0. Denney defeated grapplers from Northgate, Haralson County, Landmark Christian, and Chapel Hill via pinfall.

Freshman Nathan McClellan also had a big day on the mat going 4-1 with a pinfall win over Haralson County and points victories over Chapel Hill (10-5) and Landmark (7-5 in OT).

Freshmen Aidan Nelms and Braeden Scoggins also competed with Nelms earning a win via pinfall over Bowdon.

The short-handed Brave team will not compete at area or state duals but individually will wrestle at the area, sectional, and state traditional meets.

The Area (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) and Sectional (Feb. 7-8) meets will each take place at Bremen High School.

The Braves are led by head coach Jimmy Haynes and assistant Wyatt Miller.

The GHSA Traditional State Championships will take place February 13-15 at the Macon Centreplex.
