(Milledgeville, GA) — The young Braves varsity basketball team traveled to Milledgeville, GA on June 22-24 to take part in a summer basketball camp at Georgia College.
Four freshman, four sophomores, and two juniors made the trip with head coach Phillip Manning and faced a tough schedule of opponents including several AAAAAA and AAAAA schools.
The Braves struggled on day one versus the much larger opponents but improved with a strong finish over their last three games.
“Over the last three games we picked up a win over Pickens County, a tough OT loss to North Oconee, and a last minute loss to Monticello that was iced at the free-throw line,” Manning said.
“It took us a few games to get going, but I saw something in this group of young Braves that has me very excited about the coming season and the years to come. If this group continues to buy in to the system and improves the effort on defense, a lot of folks may be surprised by what the Heard County boys basketball team does this season.”
Coach Manning and the Braves will kick off the 2014-2015 regular season in December.
