(Columbus, GA) — The Braves traveled to Columbus Friday to take on the Spencer in the final Region 5-AA contest of the season and handled the Greenwave easily with a 20-4 win in a game called after three innings due to the mercy rule.
The Braves wasted no time scoring 13 runs in the top of the first inning.
Freshman Lee Key continued his stellar rookie season belting two homers to go along with five RBI’s and three runs scored.
Junior Zack Stephens also had a huge game at the plate pounding a two-run homer to go along with three RBI’s and two runs scored.
Dakota Christopher and Senior Spencer Hannah each had two hits to go along with two RBI’s.
On the mound, Trey Alford went the distance to pick up the win. He allowed five hits and two earned runs while striking out two.
The Braves did not get the help they needed from Manchester to get a number two seed as the Blue Devils fell to Bowdon on Friday 8-2 in Manchester.
Therefore, the final seedings for Region 5-AA have Bremen at #1, the Red Devils at #2, the Braves at #3, and Jordan at #4.
Region 5-AA squads will begin the state playoffs versus Region 7-AA this Friday. The Braves will be traveling to Coosa High School in Rome.
The best-of-three match-ups will begin with doubleheaders on Friday and possible if games on Saturday. The Braves wrap up the regular season this afternoon when they travel to Central of Carrollton (1:00 first pitch).
