Braves bounce back on Thursday night

(Franklin, GA) — The Braves football team quickly righted the ship after a tough loss to Bowdon last week and cruised to a 40-15 win over the visiting Temple Tigers at Staples Stadium in a special Thursday night game at Staples Stadium.

The Braves took advantage of several Tiger turnovers to build a 34-0 halftime lead before Coach Barron emptied his bench giving some quality time to several of the younger Braves.

Freshman quarterback Emory Jones continued to make long strides in the passing games as he completed 7 of 11 passes for 133 yards and a TD pass to senior Zack Stephens.

Stephens, Elijah Toney, and Chandler Polk each caught two passes from Jones with Pearce Kirk catching one pass for 22 yards.

The ground game was explosive for the Braves as they gained 262 yards on the ground including 130 yards and three scores by Duranta Dunson as he continues to recover from his injury. Austin Barron and Mike Holmes also each had a touchdown.

Defensively the Braves were stellar allowing the Tigers only six yards of total offense through three quarters before the younger players allowed some yardage in the final minutes of play.

Diamond Delgado led the way with nine tackles two sacks and a caused fumble and Mike Holmes also had a huge game with 11 tackles and an interception.

Matt Brown added six tackles as well along with quarterback sacks by Austin Dean and Rad Brooks. Some younger Braves also stepped up big time on defense including Anthony Jones who had nine tackles and a caused fumble, Kinley Cantrell and Dylan Langley who each had four tackles apiece and Cole Pate who added three tackles.

The Braves now control their own destiny for home field advantage in the state playoffs in next week’s season finale versus Bremen.

Barring an upset in the Bowdon-Bremen game tonight, with a win over Bremen the Braves would host the Region 6-AA #3 seed in the first round of state the following week.
