Braves Clip Wolverines

(Marietta, GA) — A 3-run triple by Chandler Polk in the top of the fifth inning Wednesday helped lead the Braves varsity baseball team to an 8-7 road win over the Walker Wolverines.

Polk’s big hit scored Tristan Brown, Lee Kay, and Zack Stephens. Stephens also had a nice day at the plate with three hits and two runs scored.

Brown added two hits and scored two runs while Lee Kay and Carl Lipford each had a double and an RBI. Brown and Stephens each had three stolen bases.

On the mound, Keagan Spradlin got the win after tossing four innings and striking out five. Polk came on in relief to get the save allowing no runs and striking out three in two plus innings of work.

The Wolverines had battled back from an 8-2 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the fifth before Polk shut them down in the sixth and seventh to secure the win.

The Braves will travel to Ranburne on Monday before starting the Region 5-AA schedule on Tuesday at Chattahoochee County.

The region schedule will look much different this season as Region 5-AA teams will battle one another in three game series match-ups each week as opposed to a traditional home and home series.

The three games will including a single game at one park early in the week followed by a doubleheader at the opposing team’s home later in the week.
