Braves crush Red Jackets 58-6

(Columbus, GA) — The Heard County Braves (5-2, 3-0) scored an easy 58-6 Region 5-AA win over Jordan Friday night at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Braves who will now prepare for the biggest game of the season when region and long-time rival Callaway comes to Staples Stadium this Friday night looking to lock up the Region 5-AA Championship trophy.

The Braves can secure the region crown for a second straight season with wins over Callaway and Bremen in the last week of the season.

The Braves scored early and often versus an over-matched Jordan squad to build a 50-0 halftime lead before the younger players and a running clock would slow down the assault.

Several Braves scored first half TD’s including Kesean Johnson who came up with a pick-6 interception return for a TD early in the game.

Offensively, senior QB Alijah Huzzie had a huge game rushing for 121 yards and two scores including one from 70 yards away.

#HuzzieFactor passed for two more touchdowns giving him a hand in four for the night. He found Quincy Sheppard from three yards out and Micaiah Austin from 34 yards.

Aaron Beasley had another strong effort rushing for 76 yards and two TD’s on just 10 carries.

Zaylin Wood and Tae Gray added the other two rushing scores. The Brave offense gained 456 total yards.

The Braves defense was again strong allowing just 62 total yards of offense.

Leroy Marsh also pulled down a big interception for the Brave defense that has allowed less than seven points per game since the loss at Rockmart in game three.

In other Region 5-AA action, Callaway is hosting Spencer Saturday afternoon, Bremen topped Temple 49-7, and Lamar County was off.
