Braves down Blue Devils 63-52

1490407-poster(Bremen, GA) — The Braves varsity basketball team got a big Region 5-AA win on the road at Bremen Tuesday night knocking off the Blue Devils 63-52.

The win was the fourth overall for Coach Phillip Manning’s young squad this season and second win over the Blue Devils. The Braves defeated Bremen on December 19 at the SMI Tournament in Carrollton.

Christian Murray led the scoring for the Braves Tuesday night with 14 points to go along with five rebounds. Freshman Emory Jones wasn’t far behind with 13 points and four rebounds.

Coach Manning was pleased by some things he saw especially defensively. The Braves never trailed after the first quarter.

“We really got going in the third quarter when Darius Matthews hit three big 3-pointers and we got several stops with some tough defense,” said Manning.

“Jaden Moreland was also huge playing with a lot of energy on defense and knocking down some key free throws late in the game. He played a great game.”

Matthews finished with 10 points and five steals to go along with the big three point baskets.

The Braves return to the court Friday night when they host Manchester, the top team in the region (7:30 p.m. tip).

The Lady Braves dropped their match-up with Bremen Tuesday night 58-49 and they also will host Manchester Friday night (6:00 p.m. tip). The Lady Braves hope to avenge an earlier loss to the top-seeded Manchester girls.
