Braves down Red Jackets in Columbus

(Columbus, GA) — Coach Trent Bianco’s Brave baseball team moved to 12-5 and 4-0 in Region 5-AA with a 10-4 road win at Jordan Tuesday afternoon.

Auston Wilson grabbed his team high fifth win of the season. Wilson allowed just six hits and did not walk a single batter while striking out five over seven full innings of work.

The efficient Wilson scored the complete game win while improving his team best ERA to 2.67 on just 86 pitches.

The Braves scored four in the top half of the second inning to break it open and led 8-1 in the middle of the fourth. The Red Jackets managed only single runs in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

Seniors Lee Kay and Trey Alford offered big production offensively.

Kay went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI’s to raise his team high batting average to .500 for the season.

Alford also went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI’s.

Logan Ward did his job at the lead-off spot scoring three runs after patiently drawing three walks from Jacket pitching to go along with one base hit.

Ethan Brant also scored two runs and freshman Dale Thornhill added a double.

Brant and Thornhill lead the team with seven doubles each this season.

The Braves and Callaway appear to be on a collision course for the region championship as both sit at 4-0 early in region play.

The Cavaliers knocked off Lamar County 6-1 Tuesday and will meet them again tomorrow in a doubleheader in Lagrange. The Braves will return home Friday to host the Jackets in a doubleheader to finish out the series.
