Braves drop two at Bremen

(Bremen, GA) — The Braves did not get the results they hoped for on Thursday in Bremen and now they are backed into a corner heading forward to next week’s three game series with Region 5-AA leading Bowdon.

The Braves dropped the opener Thursday 5-3 before falling in the nightcap 2-1.

While the two setbacks to the Blue Devils did significant damage to the Braves’ postseason hopes, the possibility still remains the team could win Region 5-AA for the second straight season with a sweep of the Red Devils next week.

Conversely, with a poor showing the Braves could drop all the way down to the No. 3 seed and be forced to travel in game one of the state playoffs.

The Brave hitters struggled at the plate Thursday with just four hits in each game.

“We just didn’t do the little things to win today such as bunts and safety squeezes and to beat good teams going forward we have got to do those things,” said Coach Trent Bianco after the game.

“At the end of the day, we don’t have guys that are going to sit up here and hit home runs. We are a little things kind of team and if we don’t do those things right we are not going to win these close games like we should.”

Austin Wilson had a nice day in relief during both games for the Braves tossing a total of three scoreless innings without allowing a hit, walk, or run. Offensively, Wilson drove in a run in game one with a base hit.

Lee Kay had two hits in game one. Trey Alford took the loss in game one while senior Keagan Spradlin was the hard-luck loser in game two.

The Braves will close out the regular season with a single Senior Night match-up with Bowdon on Tuesday and a doubleheader at Bowdon on Friday.

The Red Devils would clinch the Region 5-AA Championship with a win in either of the three games, barring an improbable upset loss to Temple tomorrow.
