(Franklin) — While many students were enjoying spring break last week, the Braves varsity baseball team was taking care of business on the diamond, extending their Region 5-AA winning streak to 11 games after blasting the Manchester Blue Devils and Temple Tigers in five games.

The Braves knocked off the Blue Devils 14-1 on Monday and 18-1 on Wednesday to finish up a three game sweep of a series postponed several times due to rain.

Coach Trent Bianco’s squad also swept the Temple Tigers in three games winning 14-1, 12-7, and 12-3 and now lead Region 5-AA with a 9-0 record heading into match-ups over the next two weeks with rivals Bremen and Bowdon.

Leading the way last week offensively was the uber hot bat of sophomore Lee Kay who finished the week with 12 hits in 16 at bats with four doubles, a triple, 12 runs scored, and 14 RBI’s.

Dakota Christopher also had a monster week going 10-for-17 with seven RBI’s including a five hit performance versus Manchester.

Lead-off man Tristan Brown had six hits, six RBI’s, and 10 runs scored over the stretch.

On the hill, five different Braves picked up wins including Christopher, Ethan Brant, Carl Lipford, Zack Stephens, and Keagan Spradlin.

The top pitching performance of the week came from Christopher as he tossed five innings allowing no earned runs and just one hit in the 18-1 win over the Blue Devils on Wednesday.

The Braves are scheduled to face Class AA top ten rival Bremen on Tuesday at Bremen before returning home for a doubleheader on Thursday but weather again could be a factor with rain forecast all week long in the area.
