(Franklin) — The Braves varsity baseball team will host an important Region 5-AA spring break doubleheader at home Thursday afternoon with a matchup with the Jordan Red Jackets from Columbus.
The Braves are now 8-2 in Region 5-AA play on the season after scorching Temple Tuesday 15-0 in three innings.
Dakota Christopher allowed no hits in the game and freshman Lee Kay blasted the team’s first homer of the season to lead the Braves.
Jordan comes into today’s games with a 5-2 region record following up a 20 win season in 2013. New head coach Trent Bianco is feeling right at home in the newly remodeled Braves dugout.
“I am lucky to have the support of two former baseball coaches in Shane Lasseter (athletic director) and Rodney Kay (principal),” said Bianco. “Today’s games with Jordan will be very important for our playoff hopes. If we can take care of our business the next couple of weeks we can host a state playoff series here at home.”
The first pitch in today’s game one will be at 2:00 p.m. and the second game will follow shortly thereafter. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Friday but was moved up due to forecasted rain on Friday.
Senior Taylor Smith and Kay are expected to take the mound in today’s games.
