The Braves basketball team was trounced once again this weekend in the final two regular season games of the year as they lost to Callaway 75-36 on Friday night and then Manchester on Saturday night 90-50.

Surprisingly though, despite not winning a game all season the Braves will not be the lowest seed in the Region 5-AA tournament this week.

The Spencer Greenwave were forced to forfeit wins over Heard and Callaway in January which results in the Braves being the number seven seed in the region tournament which begins tomorrow.

The Braves will take on the Temple Tigers tomorrow at 5:30 at Callaway High School in Lagrange. The road to a state playoff berth will be a long and arduous one for Coach Red Keith and his squad who struggled to the worst season in school history losing all 22 games by an average of 34 points per game with the lowest margin of defeat being 18.

Nonetheless, expect the Braves to show up Monday with reckless abandon as the tournament will provide them with a fresh start and a chance to be a playoff Cinderella. With a Braves upset of the Tigers they would face Callaway on Tuesday at 8:30 at Hardaway High School in Columbus.

Ben Cole and Aaliyah Rutledge were both honored before Saturday’s boys game as the only Seniors on this year’s varsity teams.

The Lady Braves clinched the number one seed on Friday night when they defeated Callaway and Jordan defeated Carver.

The girls also won big Saturday night over Manchester and Coach Williams used the  meaningless match-up to get lots of girls into the game prior to the playoffs.
