Senior Jonathon Hunt (L) had 11 points in Friday night’s win over Bremen.
(Franklin) — The Braves and Lady Braves each knocked off Bremen Friday night at Heard High School as the Region 5-AA Playoffs got back into full swing after several weather delays this week.
The boy’s team came out strong from the start taking down the injury depleted Blue Devils 63-43. Defense was the name of the game in the first half as the Braves held the Devils to just 13 points and owned a 10 point lead.
A trio of seniors led the Braves in scoring including Taylor Smith with 16, Deron Swint with 15, and Jonathon Hunt with 11.
The Braves will now battle the Spencer Greenwave at 7:30 today in Manchester with a state playoff berth on the line. The Braves fell to Spencer at home 87-54 at home on February 1 but Coach Manning’s squad have since improved dramatically since that night winning four of their last six games.
The Lady Braves took down Bremen for the third time this season, winning by a margin of 68-34 in another game that was never really close.
The senior Parks twins led the Lady Braves in scoring combining for 26. Jemeka had 16 while Shemeka added 10. Jordan Watson and Madison Whitehead rounded out the top scorers with each tallying 8.
The Lady Braves will take on Bowdon at 3:00 today in Manchester also with a state playoff berth on the line. The teams split their first two games of the season with each winning in the other teams building. Today’s game should be an even match-up in a neutral building.
