Braves Look to Regroup vs. Eagles

Sophomore Tori Rogers

The Braves will try to put the first two games of the season far behind them this Friday night when they play host to the Coosa Eagles at Staples Stadium.

In 2010, the Braves traveled to Rome to face the Eagles for the first time and came way with a sour taste after dropping the close game 14-13.

It was one of the most difficult losses for Coach Barron and the rest of his staff to swallow as the Braves squandered several chances to take the lead late in the game.

A missed field goal and a couple of dropped passes left the team at a low point before they turned the season completely around by winning the last five region games of the season to land the number two seed in the state playoffs.

Coach Barron will be looking for a similar turnaround from his young team this year beginning this week.

Although not a region 5-AA game, this contest does bear some extra motivation due to the GHSA tie-breaker rules which give much credence to a team that scores an out of region win within the same classification.

Oddly, a win over a team in your own classification even outweighs a victory over a team from a higher classification, so bearing in mind that Region 5-AA is small with only eight teams, this win could be a big one for the Braves.

They hope to avoid at all costs  being the #4 seed in the region which would probably land them yet another trip to the University of Buford in the first round.
