The Braves varsity basketball teams opened region 5-AA competition at home Tuesday night with victories versus the Bremen Blue Devils.
This was the first time since February 2, 2010 that both the boys and girls squads won on the same night. It also served as revenge wins for both teams after they each fell to the Blue Devils in the Haralson Invitational during the Christmas holidays just two weeks ago.
The Lady Braves ousted the Lady Blue Devils 60-48 for their second straight win.
The Lady Braves led by 10 points at halftime before the Devils charged back to within two at 45-43 with 4:18 to play in the game but two free throws by Whitney Emory and a three point play by Shemeka Parks broke it open for good.
Jemeka Parks(#21) led the Lady Braves with 26 points
Jemeka Parks led the scoring for the home team with 26, Jasmine Cook had 10, and Emory finished with a career high of six points. Jordan Hill led the way for Bremen with 28.
In varsity boys action, Elijah Toney had a breakout scoring effort knocking down 14 to lead the Braves who led almost the entire way in the 52-43 final.
Deron Swint also looked sharp scoring eight.
Coach Philip Manning and the Braves have now won two out of three and look to keep the ball rolling with two more region games this weekend.
The Braves and Lady Braves will travel to Temple on Friday night before returning home Saturday night to take on the rival Bowdon Red Devils at the high school. Varsity games on both nights begin at 6:00 p.m.
