Braves Patrol at CES completes training on Flag Etiquette

(Centralhatchee, GA) — Did you know that there are six American flags on the moon? This was one of many facts that the new Braves Patrol at Centralhatchee Elementary learned on Friday, August 23rd.

Members of the James Stewart Chapter, NSDAR, were invited to the school to instruct and demonstrate flag etiquette, the different parts of the flag, and proper flag usage.

Jane Barker, Chairman of the Flag of the USA Committee, reviewed the parts of the flag to the patrol before moving to the official school flag on the outside of the building. Once outside, patrol members reviewed the lowering and the proper folding of the flag.

The 2019-2020 Braves Patrol are Liara Bailey, Gunner Copeland, Preston Crockett, Aiden Dean, Makayla Downing, Mariah Hooks, and Ethan Penados Johnson, Kaiden Little, Abby Mattocks, Conner Peppers, Tyler Philpot, Mason Shelnutt, Stephanie Thomaston, Kadence Vadovsky, Brylee Vinson, and Katelynn Walker.

The Coordinator for the Braves Patrol is Tracey Hunt.

Each patrol member has many important duties in the school. Raising and lowering our nation’s flag is one of those duties and each of the students will rotate on the flag detail throughout the year.

At the end of their class, each patrol member received their official flag lapel pin and a pair of white gloves. Patrol members were excited to hear that they were invited to carry the flags in the upcoming Veterans Day Program on Saturday, November 9th, honoring our Heard County veterans.

The Flag of the USA Committee for the Daughters of the American Revolution was formed in 1909 to promote patriotic feeling and respect for our flag.

The Flag of the USA is only one of many committees that combine our nation’s history, patriotism and education to benefit the youth in our county.

Please consider joining this group of volunteers so that you can help shape the youth of today into the leaders of tomorrow.
