(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Middle School Braves baseball team survived a fierce comeback by the Temple Middle School Tigers in Franklin Tuesday to take the 9-6 win in the West Georgia Small School Semifinals.

The Braves will now host the Championship game Thursday as they look to win back-to-back titles after capturing the very first crown in school history just last season.

The Braves jumped to a 5-0 lead over the Tigers after an inning at HCMS and led 6-0 after two before the Tigers bounced back with six runs of their own to tie the game at 6-6 after the top of the fourth.

The Braves would quickly respond with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth and solid Brave pitching would close the door the rest of the way.

Logan Addison came on to retire the last four batters of the game while striking out two to earn the save.

Jacob Miles started the game and pitched 2.2 innings before handing it over to Jacob Watts. Miles walked one and allowed two hits while allowing one earned run and striking out five.

Watts gave up five runs in two innings of work but just two were earned and he picked up the win.

Offensively, John Paul Awbrey had two hits including a double, Houston Wilson drove home three, and Will Alford scored two runs.

Gryson Cockrell also walked, doubled and scored a run. Jonathan Echols had a base hit and an RBI. Tyler Lasseter and Blake Oldham also had base hits in the semifinal win.

The Braves coached by Jud Jones will host Villa Rica in the Middle School Championship game at 5:00 PM Thursday at HCMS.

A baseball title would land HCMS’s fifth title of the school year after having already won championships in softball last fall, girl’s basketball during the winter, and boys and girls track just last week.
