(Franklin, GA) — The Heard County Braves capped off a week of homecoming celebration with a 49-15 Region 5-AA win over the Jordan Red Jackets Friday night at Staples Stadium.

Junior running back Aaron Beasley put the Braves on the board first with a 12 yard TD run that also gave him 1000 yards rushing for the season.

A scrappy Red Jacket squad bounced back and marched down the field to tie the score at 7-7 with 3:32 to play in the first quarter.

After a Brave drive stalled on downs deep in Jacket territory, Andrew Leak came up with a pick six for the Braves to put the home team back in the lead at 14-7.

Beasley would come up with another interception for the Brave defense on the next Jacket drive to set up another Brave scoring opportunity.

Senior QB Emory Jones would make it 21-7 after a 56 yard run from scrimmage with under 5:00 to play in the second quarter.

Senior Kendaz Goode recovered a big fumble for the Braves with just 43 seconds to play in the half and Jones would find Huzzie to extend the lead to 28-7 at the break.

Jakab Moon was again perfect on PAT attempts Friday night going 6-for-6. The triad of Moon, holder Leroy Marsh, and snapper Wyn Denney have been excellent this season after replacing three seniors who all graduated last season. Freshman James Newell connected on the last PAT of the night.

Senior Jaden Moreland made a fantastic catch on a long Jones pass to set up a one yard burst from Beasley to push the lead to 35-7 early in the second half. Jones found Huzzie once again from 21 yards to make it 42-7.

Huzzie took over under center in the 4th and quickly found Komari Clark on a 46-yard TD pass with 5:14 to go in the game to close out the scoring for the home team. Huzzie had two TD receptions and one TD pass on the night.

The Red Jackets scored a TD and a two-point conversion to close out the scoring as time expired with a running clock to make the final 49-15.

Beasley finished the game with 190 rushing yards and the two TD’s on 15 carries. He enters next week’s game at Lamar with 1136 for the season. Emory Jones had another big night on the ground with the TD and 101 yards on just nine attempts. He was 7-for-15 with 149 yards and two TD passes through the air.

Defensively, Leak led the Braves with seven tackles, a caused fumble, and the pick 6 TD.  Senior Kendaz Goode continued his stellar play with six tackles, including two for big losses and the fumble recovery.

Another Brave making his presence felt on the defensive side was sophomore Kesean Johnson who had three tackles for losses including tow that were back-to-back to thwart a Jacket drive completely. Junior DE Tray Dunson had the lone sack of the game for the Braves.

“I thought our kids played well tonight,” Coach Tim Barron said after the game. “We did have that one early drive we were a little flat but Shane (Lasseter) and D.J.  (Curbow) on the headsets made some quick adjustments and after that we were good. To see these kids come out of that big game last week and just do what they were supposed to this week — that was good.”

The Braves (7-1, 3-0) travel to Lamar County next week for another Region 5-AA contest. Lamar defeated Spencer Friday night 28-21 meaning the Braves can clinch the Region Crown with a win this Friday night at Barnesville.

In other Region 5-AA action, Callaway knocked off Temple 48-21.
