Braves season ends despite worthy effort in 73-72 overtime loss

Coach Red Keith and the Braves put forth an extremely strong effort versus the Temple Tigers in the first round of the Region 5-AA tournament at Callaway Monday night.

Unfortunately, once the smoke had cleared the Braves suffered a 73-72 loss in overtime to end their season.

It was indeed a valiant effort from a squad that didn’t win a game all season and was an improvement from the first two meetings with the Tigers when they lost by 18 and 20 points.

The match-up between the sixth and seventh seeded teams was all Braves early on as they tallied a 37-24 lead at halftime but they were unable to maintain the advantage.

After leading by nine points in the last quarter the Tigers stormed back led by Trevor Shell who lad the Tigers with 21 points.

The Braves were led by Damon Pearson who scored 22 and Jonathon Hunt who had 18.

Despite the very difficult season the Braves only graduate one senior, Ben Cole, so they should be primed to improve greatly in the next couple of years.

Temple will move on in the tourney as they face Callaway tomorrow night at 8:30 at Hardaway High School in Columbus.
