Braves Silent Auction Highlights

The 5th Annual Heard County Braves Athletic Booster Club Silent Auction took place Saturday Night at the Heard High School cafeteria.

Chef Tillman and the Culinary Arts Department once again prepared an outstanding dinner and cake for about 250 people.

Dinner was followed up by the always interesting process of auctioning off various donated items as well as the cash raffle giveaways which of course make the event very exciting indeed. Everyone in attendance was hopeful that disc jockey Greg Holcomb would call their name next.[gpslideshow]

Mr. Norman Thompson was the big winner of the night as his name was drawn for the grand prize of $2500 in cash. Mr. Terry Harper was the next biggest winner taking home $1000 dollars.

The $500 winners for this year were Mack Lipford, Katie Storm Meadows, and Michael Nelson who generously donated $400 of his winnings back to the football program.

Thanks to a lower turn-out this year in relation to the previous years those who were in attendance found some amazing bargains on many of the items which were all donated by local businesses and citizens.

Lots of great deals were to be had on various sports related items as well as some very cool baskets which contained all sorts of different items.

“Wow! I am so excited about what all I got in my Heard County Brave Spirit basket for only $90. I got an all sports pass to get me into every Braves game next year, a chair, some car flags, three hats, a purse, a car tag, a poncho, a commemorative glass, three polo shirts and best of all everything has the HC emblem on it. It also included a locker rental and a 60.00 yearbook!”~Dianne Chambers

One of the most sought after items of the night was a Heard County Braves corn hole bean bag game designed and built by Mr. Joel Rogers and several HHS students.

A difficult economy once again this year coupled with higher gas prices has made fundraising as difficult as ever.

The Heard High Athletic Booster Club would like to thank everyone including businesses and private citizens who donated items and their time for this very worthy event as well as all who bought tickets and attended.

Additionally, the Brave Nation would like to extend a very special thanks to Nutt Roofing for a very generous donation to the raffle giveaway. To see lots of photos from the event visit facebook.com/bravenation.
