Braves split road matchups, JV powers past Lions

(Franklin, GA) — Brave varsity baseball went 1-1 this week scoring a 7-6 come-from-behind win at Mt. Zion Wednesday before dropping a 9-4 contest at Rockmart Friday night.

The Braves rallied from an early 4-0 deficit and a 5-3 deficit versus the Eagles Wednesday scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the 7-6 win.

Isaiah O’Neal had two hits for the Braves and Blaine Barlow scored twice and had an RBI to pace the offense.

On the mound, junior Noah Cantrell worked three solid innings in relief to notch his second win of the season to go along with his team best 3.00 ERA for the season.

O’Neal had a hit and an RBI in Friday’s lost to the Yellow Jackets.

Leroy Marsh still leads the squad in hitting with a .395 average for the season and the senior also sport the team high in hits with 15, doubles with seven, steals with nine, and runs scored with 13. Senior Drew Cornelius leads the way in runs batted in with nine.

The Braves (7-5) face a busy slate this week with a road game at Troup High tomorrow (5:30 PM) and home games versus Brookstone Tuesday (5:30 PM) and Lamar County Saturday (1:30 PM).

The Braves begin Region 5-AA play next Tuesday, March 23 at Callaway High School in Lagrange. The same teams will meet in a doubleheader Friday in Franklin to close out the 3-game series.

The JV Braves put on quite the offensive show in a 19-7 home win at Central Thursday. Blake Oldham led the way going 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI’s.

Carter Coleman had a huge game at the plate with two hits and four RBI’s.

Other Braves recording multiple hits included Hayden Holliday, Jacob Watts, and Chris Pruitt. Will Alford scored three times and the Braves as a team stole eight bases. Sammy Holliday earned the win in 3.2 innings of relief. He struck out six Lion hitters while allowing no earned runs.

Jacob Watts had an impressive outing on the mound in a 2-2 tie at Rockmart Friday. Watts went the distance tossing six innings while allowing just one earned run and one walk.

The JV Braves (3-3-2) will host Callaway Monday afternoon for a doubleheader at 5:15 PM in Franklin.
